This post is all bout challenges, and not just photographically but also as a life lesson of sorts. You see, every day is a challenge. That's just life, period. The importance of these challenges is facing them head on and with open arms; embracing them and owning them in order to come out on top. So, when my friend and fellow photographer Julia called me up to shoot I obviously jumped on board. But I took it as a challenge...
You see, I admire Julia's work ...A LOT. So its a challenge for me to 'impress' someone of her caliber with my work. It's a mutual respect thing for photographers, that although its never a competition, it's always humbling and nerve-wracking at the same time when asked to shoot a fellow shooter. On top of that Julia mentioned she wanted to shoot something 'dreamy' which added a new challenge. I'm not used to shooting things outside my comfort zone. I tend to shoot similar themes and subjects because 1.) I LIKE IT and 2.) I KNOW I CAN HANDLE IT.
However, despite all of that I told myself : CHALLENGE ACCEPTED! If I have learned anything from life is that we grow more from challenging situations than easy ones. So despite the nerves of wanting to do a good job for my friend, and the attempting to shoot something 'dreamy' and outside of my realm I stepped up to the plate. In the end what I found was inspiration. I totally enjoyed the process of creating something new, and the session felt amazing and flowing. Although the images we created are totally different from my usual work I still like them a whole ton, and so did Julia. So, it was a win win! Thus reinforcing my attitude towards facing life's challenges in whatever form or situation they may come as.
